Paul Sauer and Danie Rossouw planted Kanonkop's first Pinotage grapes in 1941 and is until today a leading producer and advocate for Pinotage as an icon variety.
The Pinotage Kadette is an age old favourite. The vineyards grow in decomposed granite soils and the age of the vines vary between 6 and 21 years. In 2018, there were great variations in the vineyards due to higher rainfall and irregular temperatures.
The wine is fermented in open top concrete tanks and matured for 12 months in second and third fill french oak barrels. This gives the wine a very coherent balance between fruit and fresh acidity.
