Duncan Savage, the winemaker behind the "cult status" Savage Wines, earned his stripes as winemaker at Cape Point Vineyards for 14 years. In 2016 he decided to go solo and set up his own celar in, as he calls it, the Salt Riviera, Salt River Cape Town.
He is a firm believer in traditional wine production methods in the cellar and travels far and wide every year, building relationships with and sustaining 17 vineyards across the Western Cape. The sites are specifically chosen by Duncan to express a sense of place. It is not always easy since many of these older vines generate low yields and require a lot of love and attention to produce a small number of bottles. When Duncan is not in the vineyards or cellar, you can find him out surfing.
